There are several ways to get rid of ants with natural and simple ingredients that you already have at home. One mixes in a substance that kills the ants and destroys the nest. To get ants to take the bait, you need to mix it with something sweet like sugar, but don’t forget it. Sources: 7

The end result is a substance so poisonous that the ants may not be particularly dangerous, but hordes of ants scurrying over the kitchen counter are no fun. Terro ant baits are one of the best conventional ant traps but don’t rush to buy terros if it’s easier to make homemade ant traps. Sources: 3, 7

Ants are attracted to sweet, fatty and fatty foods and then kill them with the natural ant killer Borax. Sources: 3

You might think of it as a commercial ant trap, but it is actually much more effective and much cheaper than what you can imagine commercial ant traps to be. Sources: 3

The good news is that homemade ant traps are really easy to make, you just have to take something that ants love and mix it with something to kill them. I will introduce you to some recipes that you can try out and how you can actually use them, but first, a quick reminder that it is easy for you to go to your house or garden shop and buy a pack of ant traps. You may already have all the ingredients and materials you need to make an effective homemade ant control agent, such as ant repellent, ant spray, and even ant bait. Sources: 1

You can’t just sprinkle some borax on the ground and expect ants to feast on it, you have to entice them into a heap of borax by mixing it with something sweet. There is no point in buying anti-ant products when the B-Orax is already doing an effective job of repelling ant invasions. Sources: 1

This homemade ant bait can be made by thoroughly mixing a part of borax with 3 parts powdered sugar and 1 part sugar with a pinch of salt. Sources: 5

Fill a tiny container like a bottle cap with this homemade ant bait and place it in a place where you suspect ants are invading your home. If you see an ant trail, place a small container of this mixture directly in its path. Sources: 5

This will discourage most of them from travelling throughout the house because they have easy access to this sugary treat, and it will also cause them a lot of trouble. Sources: 5

Generally, homemade traps for handling unwanted ants consist of something sweet that attracts them first. Boric acid is a very effective ant killer, and the combination with liquid sugar should provide you with some very effective traps against ants in your garden. Spraying can be good for dealing with ants you see, but not so good for the rest of the ant population. Sources: 2

To set these traps, simply mix a cup of water with a cup of liquid sugar (the same type you use in your detergent recipe). Sources: 0, 2

What is really great is that Borax is actually the ingredient in Terros liquid ant traps. The ants love this mixture because it is a little secret potion that kills the ants in the end. Just put them on the counter or somewhere in the area where ants run around and let them go into the city. Sources: 0

There is also an additional perk, most ants take the bait laced with boric acid to their colonies where all other ants swallow it and die, allowing you to kill the whole colony without much effort. The only downside is that while it is not toxic, it can be harmful if consumed or inhaled by your pet, so avoid using it in places that can reach pets. If you eat this stuff, you can poison it by damaging the ant’s exoskeleton, just like diatoms do. Sources: 4

Now that you know what you’re going to do, here’s how to make your own ant trap. Mix some powdered sugar and baking soda with a little water and the baking soda reacts with the bait to kill the individual ants that eat it. Sources: 4, 6

Of course, you can also buy ant traps with different types of bait, such as the ones shown above, or even a few different types of traps. Sources: 6

Raids attract the sweet, protein-seeking ant species and have been successfully used in various places, such as in my backyard and in the backyard of my family’s house. Sources: 6

In other words, it stands to reason that homeowners would try to develop a DIY alternative that contains borax to kill the ants as well. When Borax baits are eaten by the ant, they do not disturb the ant’s digestive system and gradually kill it. This slow killing rate gives the worker ants enough time to consume the bait and return to the nest to share with the rest of the colony and then the queen.
